Events - Notts County Council Community Archaeology

Riverside Audit
Join the Community Archaeologists on the upcoming Riverside Audit date. The Audit aims to record archaeological features along the River Trent. An audit day is essentially a walk along a stretch of riverbank, where we keep our eyes peeled for any archaeological features. Anything we see is recorded with photos and a GPS location.
So why not come along and stretch your legs, and hopefully spot a bit of archaeology along the way!

Thursday 15th December
Morning - Laneham and Dunham
Meeting by Laneham church, in Church Laneham, opposite the Ferry Boat Inn, at 10am.
Walk is approximately 4 miles. Bring suitable footwear and clothing, and something to drink en route.
Afternoon - Trent Port and Littleborough
Meeting by Marton church at 2pm
Walk is approximately 3 miles. Bring suitable footwear and clothing, and something to drink en route.

Cromwell Churchyard - Bramble Wrestling Day
On Saturday 10th December we will be having a day at Cromwell Church, clearing brambles from the graveyard. This is so that the local community can get the troublesome triffids under control, and so that the graveyard is accessible. It will also mean that we can record the gravestones that are currently hidden, which include the remains of a medieval cross.

If you would like to come along, don gloves, and help out, you would be more than welcome. I know it's not exactly an 'archaeology' activity, but it has archaeological implications, and should be a good theraputic day! There are toilet facilities nearby, and a kettle!

The day runs from 10am to about 3pm. We are meeting at Cromwell church at 10am.

I can offer very limited lifts (3 places) in the car leaving from Trent Bridge House, West Bridgford. This car will be leaving at 9am. If you would like a lift please let me know.

If you would like to come along to either of the above dates can you please let Emily know so that she has an idea of numbers.
