SOUTH Yorkshire will play host to its first ever conference on the history of the Labour movement.
Historians, trade unionists and MPs will gather on Saturday, March 19, to debate why Labour got stuck for so long in opposition in the 1930s, 1950s and 1980s – while keeping an eye on the current political situation.
Organisers say the 31-51-81 conference is not just a scholars’ seminar, though the best thinkers and writers on Labour history will be taking part.
Speakers include Tristram Hunt MP, journalist Polly Toynbee and SDP founder David Owen.
